The NEWSLETTER of TriFive.com, a website dedicated to
the restoration and hot rodding of America's favorite cars

Volume 1: Issue 10: Spring, 2008

From Trifive

To all Trifive Members:

I would like to thank Gary McFeron for agreeing to be our editor for the new and revised Trifive Newsletter.

Exciting things are happening daily at Trifive.com.  Every day new members join from all around the world. The best thing is we all share the passion for the best classic cars ever made, (1955, 1956 and 1957 Chevys).

It’s hard to image that only 27 months ago we started Trifive.com on a cold winter's night. The idea for Trifive.com came from a need for help to restore my 57 Chevy.  I knew  I needed a lot of advice, and wondered if there were other guys and gals out there like me who wanted to get together for the sole purpose of helping each other restore our favorite cars.

Here we are 27 months later -- We have  already passed the 5000 member mark. A special thanks goes out to all the moderators, administrators, and members who not only volunteer their time to help make Trifive what it is, they strive to keep it that way.

We have not changed our rules or passion to help each other since day one. I know there may be concern that if we get too large we will start modifying everything we do here.  The answer to that is, "Why change success?" This will never happen, whether we are 10,000 members or only 2 members strong, we will stay the same -- a safe family-friendly place for everyone to enjoy.

Thanks again for all your support!

Letter from General Motors

General Motors Corp. has visited Trifive.com and read the application letter I sent to their legal departments, with pictures of our hats, shirts, logos, etc, and have officially approved our use of the GM Chevrolet Trademarks in connection with our website, Trifive.com. and our shirts, hats, stickers, etc. have been approved.

This is the statement for their use.

" Chevrolet Trademark (s) used with the written permission of General Motors. "

The official letter is long and detailed, but that's the bottom line -- we are fully legal to use the bowtie emblem, etc. on our website and products to our members only.

I am truly excited about this!

I had a chance to chat with this month's  Featured Member, MikeyKY.  He is member number 10, and joined December 2005.  He lives in Louisville, KY with his wife.  They share two grown children and 6 grandchildren.

His "day job" is Insurance Adjuster.

Mike's current project is a '55 Belair sedan.  His favorite TriFive is a '57 150 series businessman's coupe.

Asking him how he got started messing around with cars, this is what he had to say:  “ I have owned somewhere between forty and fifty of these TriFives.  I owned a body shop for ten years and have built drivers that could compete in shows.  That experience was invaluable to the work I am doing on my car today.

I grew up working on cars.  I changed a clutch when I was 8, with only a little lifting help from my father.  My father was a mechanic, so I just naturally got involved."

As a child he was also greatly influenced by a neighbor and it shows.  "I have a small plaque on my car that reads, In Memory of Rex Blanton Jr.'"

Mike goes on to say, "Rex taught me to sand and paint cars at a very young age and I am still doing it his way.    I wouldn't be on TriFive today if it wasn't for Rex."

When asked about his favorite pastime outside of working on his beautiful 55,  he said, “My family, especially my granddaughter, Mikaela.  Keeping her involved in sports and school activities keeps me on the go."

I asked Mike what two words best describe him? "Opinionated and giving.  I have a real drive to help others." This shows through in his dedication to helping us on TriFive.

When asked  what would he do if he won the lottery, he said, "I would love to be in a place to help some good people out.  I know a lot of people who have worked hard all their lives, but due to circumstances beyond their control are barely scraping by."

Asked who his heroes are, his immediate response was, "Jesus Christ and our US Military."

I asked him what one thing he would like to say to every member of TriFive?  Mike responded, "Don't ever be afraid to ask a question.  That is why TriFive was created in the first place.  The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked."

Mike may be withdrawing that last comment after all these questions from your editor. :)

Thank you Mike, for letting all of us get to know you a little better.

The rest of the world has always heard how beautiful the women are in Sweden.  However, take a look at this American beauty. It has wandered a long way from Detroit.

"I bought it in April 2007 as a company car.

It came to Sweden in 1975 and was restored by a guy in Stockholm in the late 80s.  They did a very nice job on it. They installed a 327, followed by a Turbo 400 transmission, disc brakes in the front and new upholstery.

I thought it was a little too much 80s, so I decided to paint it and remove the rear seat and install a cargo area there instead.

Now it's in the shop again to replace the engine with an LS1 and a new 4-speed transmission.  Also on the schedule is an IFS kit from Jim Meyer.  With new disc brakes and rack and pinion steering, it will lower it 2 inches in front and 3 inches in the rear with Posies leafs.

To much 80s?  I am still trying to keep mine in the 60s.  Thanks for sharing this now foreign beauty with us.

From The Editor

As spring arrives and many are finished shoveling snow from the drive, our attention turns to man's desires.  Spring is in the air and yes, those local and national events are gearing up to thrill us to the floor pans.

If you have any events you would like included in our events schedule, please get them posted on TriFive.com as soon as possible.

Any of you "would be reporters" who attend these events, please take pictures, ask questions and send me the results.  Also, any of you who win awards at these shows are encouraged to let us know.  We would be interested in giving you recognition for your hard work and we would like to celebrate with you.

This is a new project for me and I am very honored to be part of such a great group.  I want to thank all of you who helped me get this newsletter together.

If you have any suggestions or think of things you want to see in future Tire Tracks editions please e-mail me at
