From A Woman's Point of View Story by Tina 1RARE57 |

Tina (1RARE57)
lives in the Twin Cities area of How to Get Dirty and Enjoy it! I am a surrogate mother to a 1957 Chevy Utility Sedan. The car belongs to my boyfriend, Dan (57Danr). I treat her like she was equally mine. She is a rare beauty – and by rare I mean she was the least produced sedan made in 1957 by Chevrolet. There was no back seat and no windows to roll down in the back, either. She has very little chrome, but is worth every penny spent on her! Perhaps I'm a bit different than most other woman out there. I am one who has dug her heels in to help fix up this car, named "Babe", to make it road worthy and, hopefully, show worthy. I did not grow up in a family that was into cars and really only knew the basics (how to fill up gas and when to change oil) when our journey started. But with the help of my boyfriend, Dan, I started to see a whole new world around me. I now know how to change the oil and transmission fluid; I now know how to install a fuel pump, as well as an oil pan and change the gasket on the transmission pan. Sure, it involves getting dirty and laying on a freezing cold cement floor at times, but that's what showers are for! It's all well worth it when you see what you have accomplished. Working on a hobby that is only increasing in value is a great place to spend your free time! And, spending time with the person you love is a great experience, too! If you want to be closer to your husband or boyfriend and become a partner who gets in there and helps instead of just being the one handing the 3/8" wrench when he needs it, my suggestion is to start small. Ask what you can help on -- maybe it's just tightening some bolts down. Try removing and installing new spark plugs that are gapped correctly. These might sound insignificant, but they all need to be done. Just remember to ask questions if you have the slightest doubt. And if you make a mistake, make sure admit to it right away so it can be fixed. I recently broke a bolt off right in the engine block while tightening it a little too much. I figured out how to fix it and where to get the tool and then Dan got in there and helped me fix the error. It was a learning experience that I will never repeat! Good luck! And, if you want to talk to another woman about her adventures, please drop me a line! Tina knows how to change and gap plugs, is not afraid to state her age and realizes the money invested is going to a good cause. Dan, I think we're all a little jealous. Good luck guys on getting that Rare 57 where you want it, keep us posted on your progress.
I asked Tina to submit a story on behalf of the women on TriFive.com. If you happen to be a woman and would like to submit an article for the next issue, we appreciate your point of view. Please e-mail me at
