The Boxer
Owner Bill Trlica

This freshly finished 55 hardtop caught my eye. Nicknamed "The Boxer," it has a champion pedigree from ground up. The mean looking stance got my attention when it pulled in. I felt I was photographing wildlife shots in reverse.  I couldn't keep the wildlife away from the cars long enough to get a good shot.

It sports a 489 big block Chevy engine that puts out
576 ft. lbs. Torque at 3200 RPM
500+ hp @ 5300 RPM

Followed by a Tremec-5 Speed and a Strange 9" 3:50 posi-trac

This is mounted into a 2008 Art Morrison Sport GT chassis with Wildwood discs all around.

The beautiful and unique paint color is 50th Anniversary Corvette Burgundy with Custom Night Hawk Black.

Enjoy the pictures and keep your eye out for this car in the big shows in the near future. It's almost too pretty to be real.

The Boxer at the 32 Annual Smokey Mountain Classic, Pigeon Forge, TN  May 2009

Bill and his wife Janet have lovingly created  this classic custom 55' with hard work, inspiration and, needless to say, a few dollars more.  The Art Morrison frame is a great foundation for this project.

Bill and Janet spend half their time in a cabin in the Georgia mountains and the other half near Plano, Texas.  Like all projects, there are many great stories.  When I asked Bill where he found the car, he told me that he was going to a Chevy Dealer in North Georgia to pick up a new truck.  In talking to the sales people they mentioned there was a mechanic who had a two door 55' he might part with.  The deal was struck and as they say, "The rest is history."  Another great story is how he came about getting his new front fenders.  They are truly "new" old stock.  He found a guy in Texas who had several sets still in the original GM paper wrapping. He said he had to part with a little money, but the fenders on the Boxer are brand new.

He gives his Dad credit for inspiring him.  Bill said, "Dad was a farmer by trade on a small place near Waco.  His great work ethic, patience when working on farm machinery and the skill he showed working with his hands was truly a great role model."

Why the name "The Boxer"?  The shoebox has always been the name given to 55s because of their square shape.  The boxer part is derived from a car that is powerful, stylish, and skilled like a prize fighter.  The Boxer is going for titles.  Recently at the Atlanta Super Chevy show Bill won an award from Featherlite trailers.

In asking Bill what he would like to say to all the members of TriFive he said, "If you are just starting a project or if that project is completed and running, be very proud of your accomplishments.  Life is short, do what you need to do to make you smile.  Get inspired to build your own car, your own way.  Put a big block in your tri-five and smile."
