The 32 Annual Smokey Mountain
 1955-56-57
Classic Chevy Roundup

Held May 15th-17th 2009 at The Inn at Christmas Place
Sponsored by the Smokey Mountain Classic Chevy Club

The rain threatened to ruin things at the start of every day.   In the end, the classic car lovers prevailed and the sun cooperated to make this an excellent meet.   Meet we did, many of us met our founder Otis (TriFive) for the first time.   We can finally put some faces to the names we have befriended on the forum.   The parking lot lit up like Christmas lights as the cars rolled in one by one.   With almost 180 TriFives in attendance it was sun glasses time.  The cars were separated into the three years along with a few specialty race cars and a few hot looking Chevy trucks.  I spent most of my time taking pictures and talking to the car owners.  It was so easy to get great pictures with such beautiful bright shiny TriFives.   Lil Greaser, one of our members, said, " It is like sticking the lens of your camera into a bag of skittles."

Otis arranged an area for a booth with TriFive banners and enough mints to satisfy any sweet tooth.  My thanks go to Josh (Shau57) and his family for keeping someone at the booth all the time.  They spent a lot of hours baking in the Tennessee sun.   It still surprises me how many TriFive owners don’t know about TriFive.com.  This was a great opportunity to get the word out.  It was inspiring to represent such a good organization and such a wonderful bunch of car enthusiasts. TriFive.com is gaining both in numbers and quality reputation.  Thanks to all the members that make this the kind of place we can all be proud of.

An interesting thing I noticed is how many of our members showed up without their cars, including me.  I don't take this as a bad sign, but a good one.  As a member of TriFive, you can take your car completely apart and get over 9,000 people to help you put it back together again -- eat your heart out Humpty Dumpty.   It is truly a sign that most of us, with the help of the rest of the members, can tackle any task on fixing up our projects.  The encouragement is priceless.   I know that's true in my case.  This show really inspired me to get to work on my own project -- maybe next year.

Everyone seemed to have a great time and it was good to put a few faces to the nicknames.  Some of the members met with their spouses for a nice dinner on Saturday night at the Old Mill in Pigeon Forge.  And two of our members won trophies -- Randy 55.

I want to thank my friend, neighbor and photographer Sam Ruggiero for the quality pictures.

The pictures are broken into year.  I hope you enjoy them.  If you want a larger format of the pictures shown, please contact me and I will e-mail it to you.  Ed

Along with these great pictures I was lucky enough to talk to a couple of our members that did bring their cars,  Thanks for showing me around your Chevy's.

Ronny’s 55

Ronny brought a beautiful Green on Green 55, 210.  He has had the car for 8 years and between him and a couple friends they did all the restoration work.  Ronny Said, "I did get a 2nd place plaque at Pigeon Forge. I was in the custom driven class. There were 32 cars in my class. The top 3 scoring cars were 1st place, the next 3 were 2nd and the next 3 were 3rd. The 1st place cars scored 290 to 300 and I scored 285. I really felt good with a 2nd place plaque with the quality of the tri-fives at Pigeon Forge."  Ronny's car was clean enough to eat off the frame rails and the surprising thing is that after Ronny drove it five hours from Lancaster, South Carolina in pretty horrific weather, it looked this good.  Ronny was promoting Premium Car Care Products he said they are the only products he will ever use on his 55.  They are in our classified adds and rumor has it they will soon become a sponsor.

I did get a couple of pictures of Ronny with his feet hanging out from under the car as he spent a lot of time cleaning and polishing everything.  He had front and rear mirrors that allowed you to look completely under the car and it was clean.   Enough of my ramblings -- here is Ronny’s 55.  Thanks for sharing the car with us. It is great to have you as a member.

Lil' Greaser

Recently at the Pigeon Forge Classic Car Roundup I had the opportunity to meet up with Li', Greaser, his wife and a few of their friends soaking up some sun and enjoying the show.  They shared a much needed bottle of water and some friendly conversation.  Of course, the major subject was Lil' Greaser's beautiful '55 two door.

A little about the car:  He purchased this beauty 28 years ago in Vandalia, Ohio for just over a thousand dollars and that's where he drove it from for the show.  It had been stored for 18 years.  However, with a lot of inspiration and a few dollars more, Lil' Greaser did a complete frame off in his garage.  He did it all himself with the help of a few friends -- except for final paint.  It is a unique color,  which he calls Creamsickle.  The names fit -- both his and the cars :)

Paint colors are Vanilla Shake and White Pearl.  The drive train starts with a 327 CI backed up by a Muncie 4-speed and a 3:73 rear gears.

This was truly a work of love.

Let Lil' Greaser know what you think of his ride.
